Replying to Spinal:
One more thing:
usbutils:
Add --disable-zlib to configure, as it installs compressed usb.ids.gz by default (same issue exists with pciutils and is already fixed in current BLFS book).
I haven't checked, but is there an application that needs the uncompressed version?

Oh, that was my fault. Forgot to mention. It's the same application, that needs uncompressed pci.ids. And it's mentioned on the appropriate page of the book. (Hint: hal)

Yeah, the page where it's mentioned is http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/svn/general/pciutils.html, check the Command Explanations section.

I would hope that we'll have a new HAL release soon as 0.5.12-rc1 was put on freedesktop.org back in late November. I have no idea if it will use the compressed pciids or usbids.

As of HAL-0.5.14, it still uses uncompressed pci/usb.ids
Everything on the ticket is fixed, although we have the disable-gz options on the two affected packages. Anyway, closing the ticket.
